As a native NY'er, I'll never forget September 11th, 2001. If you were from NY or the surrounding area, you were affected by or knew someone involved in some way. There are tons of stories like a friend who took their child to school and was late getting into work in one of the towers that day, or a firefighter who was diverted to another scene and saved a life that day and so on and so on. I have a bunch of these personal stories and I know many people have a bunch of their own as well. I don't think I've met one person who wasn't affected in some way.
Thankfully, I personally didn't lose anyone in my family. Though it was scary for quite some time as my husband worked in NYC and saw the 2nd plane hit while I was on the phone with him. It's a day I'll never forgot. So even though 6 years has passed, it'll forever be planted in my memory. MSNBC has the coverage of the morning news the day it happened. It's very strange to re-live it again.
We remember all those who lost their lives that day and those who were personally affected. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much for your loving remembrance and words in honor of those who died and those who willingly gave their lives that day.
It scares me to think of how my children's lives will be affected by that day. It will be weird to hear them speak of it in history classes and ask me "Where were you that day?" the same way I asked my parents about the day JFK was shot.

Gina: Thanks for making a post about 9/11. I am a native North Jersey girl and have so many friends that were personally touched by 9/11. One of my friends from college lost her husband in the towers that day and another one of my friends lost too many friends and collegues to count.
I don't think anyone will ever look at that date the same or forget where we were when we heard the horrible news that day.
I felt as though a lot of the news stations didn't give it enough coverage yesterday but I couldn't stop thinking about it all day. Thank you for honoring the memories of those who were lost and those who were left behind to pick up the pieces.

Your post yesterday was beautiful!! I too am a native NYer and will never forget that day. Along with the last post I too don't feel the local news stations gave it enough coverage that it deserved. I also wish that our local schools would have observed the moment of silence the way in which the NY schools do. I guess that is why once a NYer always a NYer. Like I tell people I am from Ny but live in NC. I will always be proud to be a Nyer!
Everyone is so right, there really wasn't much coverage at all locally, little blips here and there. But the History Channel had different programs relating to 9/11 the whole day which was very good I thought. One hour was from a photographers point of view and gosh, it just made your hair curl. The images of the people jumping to their deaths is something I'll simply never forget. And as a NY'er, I'm so sad that I never went there or ate at Windows of the World. It's easy to take for granted the things that are close by. I'm trying not to make that same mistake where I live now.
Anyway, thanks for celebrating the memory of this day with me.
